Adverb
After walking out on a job that has slowly ground him down, Aedan leaves San Francisco for Los Angeles, convinced that distance, sunshine, and a change of scenery might be enough to make him feel alive again. Instead, he spends a week hiding in a Hollywood hotel room, avoiding people and watching the world happen without him. Then he meets Skylar, a relentlessly charismatic stranger in a cherry red Fiat who pulls up beside him on Hollywood Boulevard and asks for one simple thing: an adverb. What begins as an absurd encounter becomes an unexpected tour through Los Angeles and an increasingly intimate connection between two men carrying more than either initially admits. Funny, uncomfortable, tender, and melancholy, Adverb is a short work of fiction about isolation, grief, desire, and the strange ways other people can force us to confront the lives we have been avoiding.
